How to Become a Virtual Assistant
You are probably reading this because you are looking for an alternate source of income. While it is true that being a virtual assistant may aid you in those aspects, you first have to understand that anything that is expected to bear fruit must come from hard work. Nobody becomes rich overnight and being a virtual assistant is no exception.
Here are some steps to help you start on your virtual assistance work
1. Start with Other Jobs First
It is nice that you wanted to help some clients get started on their business. But not knowing anything about their processes will only let you get ignored than hired.
This is the reason why some VAs start out with other jobs. Some of these involve writing, link building, encoding or handling phone calls or emails. Doing these jobs will not only expand your horizons, it will let you practice the skills as well before you take on clients.
These jobs may also include your day job. If you have been working on a particular position for years then that may also count as experience.
2. Focus on a Niche
Getting to know a particular niche or niches will make increase your opportunities. Just imagine if you can specialize on particular niches. Your worth and demand will increase. After all, if a person is known as an expert in the field he is working on, he tends to perform better. After you have found some niches, read up further on the few that you like. Write articles about it. If you want to expand further, create a site about it. It does not have to be your own domain. A free website from Blogger or LiveJournal will do.
3. Come up with Services you can Offer
After you gathered some skills and decided on the field you like to work on, start crafting the services you can offer. It is best if you can enumerate more than five things you can do. After all, virtual assistants are known to work hourly. Having more skills will grant you more value to your clients.
4. Look for Businesses who can Use an Extra Hand
As far as virtual assistance go, do not stand there are wait. You have to move and find your job. Find forums and blogs in your niche and offer your services in a polite email. Just make sure that you can offer value to the person and you are not just merely advertising yourself. In virtual assistance, the output is the real test.
5. Do your Best
If you managed to land your first client, do your best. You may not know it if that client will stay with you and hire you for the long term. In contrast with project-based freelancers who see their clients come and go, virtual assistants tend to build relationships.
So you see, being a virtual assistant is easy. You do not need a resume or go from one company to another to get yourself hired. You will be also working in the comfort of your own home without the noisy and annoying co-workers around. If you think this kind of life is the one you want to live, then maybe you are really cut out to be a virtual assistant.

Hi
I am very much interested in providing my administrative assistants as a VA. I have 14+ years of working experience as Secretary and Administrative Executive. I am currently residing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I am very keen in becoming a VA thus would like to seek any available position in your organisation and serve your remotely from my location. My preference is typing tasks. I type at 60wpm and am very much interested to take up any typing job.
At the same time, I am seeking someone who can guide me and also advise me on how I can start my own VA pool in Malaysia. I am very sure this kind of virtual administrative services will be much sought after soon in this IT era.
Your kind advise is very much appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
Regards
Rozlina
